Common questions

I forgot my master password. Use your recovery kit: on the unlock screen choose "Forgot master password? Unlock with recovery key" and set a new master password. Without the master password and the recovery kit, nobody can open the vault — there is no recovery service.

How do I move my passwords to a new phone? On the old device export a sync copy; on the new device choose "Start from a sync copy" and enter the old device's master password.

How do I keep two devices in sync? Export a sync copy on one device and use "Merge import" on the other, then the other way round.

Why no cloud sync? So that your vault never sits on someone else's server and the app needs no internet access.

I uninstalled the app — is my data gone? On iPhone, Android and Windows, uninstalling deletes the vault on that device; only an exported backup can restore it. On Mac and Linux the data usually stays, but don't rely on it — keep a backup.

AutoFill doesn't offer IvyKey. iPhone: Settings › General › AutoFill & Passwords › turn on IvyKey. Android: Settings › Passwords & accounts › Autofill service › IvyKey; in Chrome also choose "Autofill using another service". Mac: System Settings › General › AutoFill & Passwords.

Can I use the same vault on Windows and iPhone? Yes. The vault file format is the same on all platforms; exchange sync copies by USB stick or cable.

Does IvyKey work with screen readers? Yes on iPhone, Mac, Android and Linux. The Windows version does not support screen readers yet.

Is IvyKey open source? No. IvyKey's security is reviewed by an independent security engineer; the report summary will be published on the security page. Each store shows the app's permissions (no internet).

How do I report a problem or a security issue? Email support@xlab.nz. Security issues: see the security page.
